The multidisciplinary Swiss Society for Nutritional Medicine and Metabolism is committed to strengthening nutritional medicine in everyday scientific, theoretical and clinical practice.

Training and further education

  • GESKES remains the most important recognised training provider in the field of nutritional medicine and is constantly developing its range of courses and CAS further training.

  • With its "interdisciplinary specialisation in nutritional medicine", GESKES offers the best further training programme in the field of nutritional medicine for medical specialists.

Innovation & networking

  • GESKES represents the interests of nutritional medicine vis-à-vis the authorities, health insurers and industry in the long term and plays an advisory role in the relevant working groups.

Communication & Public Relations

  • The GESKES raises the level of awareness among the professional circles relevant to clinical nutrition.

Practical implementation

  • GESKES promotes the implementation of standards and guidelines for clinical nutrition in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • GESKES transfers know-how on clinical nutrition (state of the art, evidence-based) to the core target groups for implementation in practice.

Foundation of the Swiss Association for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition SAEPE.

In accordance with the resolution of the General Assembly of 1.9.1995, the Swiss Society for Clinical Nutrition (GESKES), as the successor organisation to the Swiss Working Group for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (SAEPE), takes over the members with the same rights and obligations.

1997


Revision of the Articles of Association: Claude Pichard, Geneva (President), Christian Schmutz, Aarau (Secretary), Reza Kehtari, Neuchâtel (Treasurer).

1999


Annual courses in nutritional medicine in university hospitals for doctors, pharmacists, biologists, nutritionists and nurses.

2002


Revision of the Articles of Association, new logo: Mette M. Berger, Lausanne (President), Christian Schäli, Vevey (Secretary), Reza Kehtari, Neuchâtel (Treasurer).

Proposal to the FMH to create a specialisation in "Clinical Nutrition" (by Mette Berger, President of GESKES, Ulrich Keller and Michel Roulet, Board members). The proposal was rejected.

2007


Certificate in Clinical Nutrition (ZKE, now Certificate of Advanced Studies in Clinical Nutrition CASCN), University of Bern. Coordinator: Zeno Stanga. Scientific committee: Mette Berger; pedagogical committee: Michel Roulet.

2012


Coverage of enteral nutrition by compulsory health insurance (KLV). Indication according to the "GESKES guidelines on homecare, artificial nutrition at home" of January 2009 (President: Peter Ballmer).

Coding guideline for malnutrition (according to TARMED) (President: Peter E. Ballmer).

Recognition of the medical training title "Interdisciplinary specialisation in nutritional medicine" by the SIWF (FMH).
