A practical discussion of enteral nutrition. Specialists from the fields of nutritional counselling/therapy, doctors, ethicists, care experts and home carers will present and discuss various topics relating to enteral nutrition in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Workshop description

During the on-site symposium you will have the opportunity to take part in two workshops. Below you will find a brief description of the four workshops available. Please note that only Workshop 1: "Is there only right or wrong? The ethical perspective in everyday practice" is possible. The other workshops can only be attended on site.

Workshop 1: Is there only right or wrong? The ethical perspective in everyday practice

Christina Gassmann, Head of Clinical Nutrition and Deputy Head of Nutrition Counselling/Therapy, USZ Kimberly König, nutritional counsellor/therapist, USZ After a brief input on the four principles of biomedical ethics in relation to nutritional therapy, ethical questions from practice will be discussed. The audience will have the opportunity to contribute questions from everyday clinical practice and practical examples. The questions and examples will be discussed together with the audience in the plenary session by a representative from Clinical Ethics USZ and from Nutritional Counselling/Therapy USZ.

Workshop 2: New ways of enteral feeding - Blenderised Tube Feeding

Alessia Marino, Nutritional counselling/ therapy, USZ Renato Vettiger, Nutritional counselling/therapy, USZ At the end of the workshop, an input followed by a discussion will enable participants to differentiate between blenderised tube feeding and industrially produced tube feeds and learn about their advantages and disadvantages as well as areas of application.

Workshop 3: Hands On - Practical insights and hands-on work

Vera Hochstrasser, Nutritional counselling/therapy, USZ HomeCare Bichsel AG HomeCare Mittelland Plus HomeCare Nordstern FresuCare AG Participants will expand their practical knowledge of probe handling and be able to recognise complications at an early stage. During the workshop, participants can rotate freely between the following 4 topic tables and deepen their knowledge:
  1. Medication application / options in the event of a blocked tube
  2. Homesetting (pump, rucksack, patient training, etc.)
  3. Mobilisation and assessment of the puncture site
  4. Probe types and application routes

Workshop 4: Together for optimal tolerance: focus on enteral nutrition

Carol Theiler, expert, nutritional counselling/therapy, USZ Valentina Stoira, Nutritional counselling/therapy, USZ Ladina Herren, MSc, nursing expert Participants will broaden their perspective on complaints relating to enteral nutrition and discuss current topics in small groups. Prevention and measures can be worked on in a small group either on the topic of diarrhoea and flatulence or on the topic of nausea, reflux and bloating.
